1. Start with a tert-butyl group: a central carbon bonded to three methyl groups and to an oxygen atom (O1). 
2. O1 is single-bonded to a second oxygen (O2). 
3. O2 is single-bonded to a carbonyl carbon (C1), which also carries a double-bonded oxygen (C=O).
4. C1 extends into a two-carbon saturated chain (C2-C3).
5. C3 is an sp3 carbon with three substituents in addition to its bond with C2: 
   - two methyl groups,   
   - an azo moiety (-N=N-), with no defined E/Z geometry, which is further connected to another sp3 carbon belonging to a second tert-butyl group (a carbon bearing three methyl groups).
