The core skeleton is a pyridine ring (a six-membered aromatic ring with one nitrogen). The ring is numbered with the nitrogen as position 1, proceeding sequentially to position 6.

There are four substituents on the ring:
- At position 2, a formyl group (-C(=O)H) is attached. 
- At position 3, a trifluoromethoxy group (-O-CF3), with the ring carbon bonded to oxygen and the oxygen further attached to a trifluoromethyl group.
- At position 4, a bromine atom (-Br).
- At position 6, a difluoromethyl group (-CF2), where the ring carbon is bonded to a carbon carrying two fluorine atoms.
