The molecule consists of a five-membered aromatic heteroring containing one oxygen atom (a furan-type ring, four carbons and one oxygen). The ring is numbered with the hetero-oxygen as position 1, and clockwise through positions 2-5.

Substituents on the heteroaromatic ring:
- Position 5 carries a methyl group (-CH3).
- Position 3 carries an acyl group (-C(=O)-), which extends to form an amide linkage with the ring nitrogen of a pyrrolidine ring (a five-membered saturated heterocycle with one nitrogen).

Substituents on the pyrrolidine ring:
- At the carbon adjacent to the nitrogen, there are two substituents:
  - a methyl group, and
  - a carboxylic acid group.

No chiral centers or E/Z double bonds are present.
