The molecule has a benzocyclobutane core, consisting of a benzene ring fused to a saturated four-membered carbocycle.

On one of the carbons of the four-membered ring (a position available for substitution), there is a side chain extending outward:

- The ring carbon is bonded to a methylene group (-CH2-).
- This methylene is attached to a secondary amine (-NH-).
- The nitrogen is bonded to a tetrahedral sp3 carbon, which carries:
  - a hydrogen,
  - a methyl group (-CH3), and
  - one carbon belonging to a piperidine ring.

The piperidine is a saturated six-membered heterocycle with one nitrogen, where the attachment point is meta relative to the ring nitrogen. The piperidine nitrogen also bears a methyl substituent.
