The issue focused on the role of technology in understanding and explaining human behavior, not its location in the brain.

"We were actually looking for a computer that had more computing power than we do," said James Beecher, an associate professor of psychology at Penn State. "This one was right up there with it."

But while researchers have long known that humans are able to learn from digital devices, they've only ever used computers to understand how these devices work. In this study, he and
