The issue focused on concerns over racial profiling by officers and complaints about inappropriate searches of homes and vehicles. The cameras would give authorities additional tools to investigate incidents that occurred within city limits.

Asked whether there were plans to seek funds from Washington lawmakers for the cameras, Zimmermann said they had yet to receive funding proposals from lawmakers in Congress. She added that cameras could become available through legislation if cameras became necessary as technology evolves.
