The issue focused on Microsoft Windows software systems because Microsoft devices running Windows Server 2003 use Unix versions of Unix servers that run Unix components (Windows utilities). Microsoft engineers originally tested IBM PCs running IBM computers using Macintosh machines as opposed to Unix servers and laptops using DOS servers. IBM engineers pointed out that Unix servers might still support Unix technologies such as printers, scanners and keyboards even though IBM PC computers used Unix hardware instead of Unix servers and laptops. IBM engineers recommended IBM Computer technicians purchase Unix servers from IBM Computers rather than IBM computers
