The issue focused on computer software systems that Microsoft Windows computers use to store passwords and other personal information. Computer hackers also discovered malware code used by Microsoft Windows computers to steal passwords.

From June 2015 through April 2016, PC malware typically targeted servers running Microsoft Windows machines and infected PCs or laptops with malware software called Trojans. Microsoft Windows machines were usually Windows computers used for desktop computing. Windows machines had internet connection devices such as routers and printers connected to them. PC malware software could access websites using browsers such as
