The issue focused on computer software systems that Microsoft Windows computers use to store passwords. Computer hackers had identified some of these devices and began hacking into them. The malware used Windows machines and servers to infect PCs with malware. They then gained access to infected computers, essentially installing malware onto computers by hijacking software software systems.

While PC makers were aware of the malicious software malware was creating for Windows computers, Microsoft engineers didn't even know about it until Microsoft discovered it in August 2014. Microsoft engineers quickly fixed the software
