The issue focused on what was being done to police and public officials in government-run medical institutions, not only at law enforcement but also in city government.

"It is very important that we do not let these rights be taken away from us by political leaders who are based in the national community," said Department of Justice attorney General Eric Holder. "We will take legal action if they don't want to help."

Holder's comments were made after House Republicans took up legislation this week to block federal
