The issue focused on whether Alaskans who own cars are required to pay for their cars.

In his opinion, Justice Robert King found that there is no evidence of the state having an interest in requiring cars to be registered. He also said that cars do not actually cost much more than motorcycles and bicycles.

"If automobiles were cars, then cars would have to be registered," he wrote. "There is nothing about automobiles that requires registration or license."
