The issue focused on technology that Microsoft Windows devices could use to store digital files. The software giant had spent years developing technologies for managing electronic data and hardware devices.

As part of the settlement, Microsoft must stop selling computers with Windows 10 software by April 2018. Microsoft will also pay $10 million in damages to PC makers who sold PCs without Windows 10 software.

Last month, Microsoft agreed to give computer makers 30 days' notice before taking computer systems out of production or charging customers for Windows 10 software.
