The issue focused on newly uncovered electronic communications among hackers tied to Russian intelligence agencies who hacked Democratic emails during the presidential election campaign and leaked those messages online. The hackers appear to have subsequently contacted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in order to obtain emails containing embarrassing details about Hillary Clinton's campaign.

WikiLeaks published tens of thousands of hacked emails last week that embarrassed Clinton's campaign. Those revelations prompted Comey's revelation Friday that investigators had recovered additional emails related to Clinton from an unrelated investigation into disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner.
