The issue focused on Internet domains that run servers for websites and devices to store personal data. Microsoft says it should not have been allowed to sell Windows Server software as a server service.

Under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, computers can be seized if they are used in connection with crimes such as computer hacking or cyber theft. Microsoft had argued that Microsoft Windows Server Software could not be treated like software running on servers because it was software designed to serve computers and devices.
