The issue focused on medical education and research in medicine. It also targeted doctors who study psychology at university.

Some scientists say psychological science has become too academic, academic medicine is taking over medical education and scientific researchers have never taken into account the biological factors that influence medical decisions.

Mr Hunt said medical education should take psychology more seriously.

"If you're doing studies on genetics or neuroscience or physiology or ecology or chemistry or evolutionary biology then psychology would be part of it," he said.
