The issue focused on workers getting used to being displaced by more workers moving in to take their jobs and only recently have they started to realise the cost of such a shift. But overall productivity in the manufacturing sector improved during the four months to July and the new entrants to the sector were taking jobs away from the old ones. This brought about a slow down in output which in turn was reflected in weaker consumption. So all the dots seem to be connected and there were encouraging signs that manufacturing could be poised to catch up with
