Alice was the one who was in the way. She had refused to back off, and it was clear that he had to get out of the way. He'd used her to get to his brother, and the moment he got there he'd just abandoned her.

Alice was going to say something smart to the officer who was on her trail, but she knew that wouldn't help. She could tell that he wasn't looking for any trouble, and she also knew that he wasn't stupid.

She thought back to the other time he'd called himself by his brother's name, and how quickly he had backed away.

"I need to apologize, but I'm afraid I don't have time to do it right away."

The officer looked surprised, "Time? The time for what?" He asked, and he sounded puzzled.

"He has asked me to wait, and he wants me to tell him what he's doing wrong. I was trying to protect him from himself, and I've had other ideas on how to do that, but they didn't work out."

The officer looked annoyed. "That's your idea of protecting him, you're just a manipulator," he said, and he sounded disgusted.

Alice didn't believe him for a second, "What did I do wrong?
