Are you a Republican or a Democrat? Do you believe that President Clinton and his administration are innocent of war crimes? Do you believe that George W. Bush and his administration are innocent of war crimes? Do you believe that President Obama and his administration are innocent of war crimes?

That's not how American voters do their research. In fact, most American voters are extremely skeptical of the legitimacy of the president, and of the integrity of government agencies, especially the military. A 2014 Gallup Poll found that four out of 10 Americans (65 percent) say "the military has been too responsive to the needs of the White House." In 2004, only 30 percent of the public said the military had been too responsive to the needs of the White House.

The same poll found, on the other hand, that 90 percent of the public said the government was being too responsive to the needs of the president, and not enough to the needs of its own citizens.

Of course, that same report also found that Americans have increasingly turned against President Obama -- with an all-time record high of 76 percent disapproving of the president's performance as president.
