Bob went to the top of the ridge. He had left the main road and was heading for the small stream, where a footpath was posted at the point. She turned and looked back.

It would take the better part of an hour to travel back down the lane. The sky was an unclouded blue. The breeze was light. The stars were twinkling like a thousand points of light in the sky. Her senses were sharpened. But where to start?

It had been a very interesting day with no traffic, no accidents. Had she been on the verge of being seriously hurt or had she fallen victim to some very foolish mistake?

Bob was still walking across the road, when he realized he had been gone a considerable distance and was no longer headed in the same direction. He started to feel a strange urge to get back on the road and keep going toward home. A feeling of drowsiness and fatigue was beginning to set in, and Bob felt a desperate need for sleep. He was losing energy, even though it felt like he had all the energy he needed to walk for half an hour.

After about half an hour, the air began to feel thin and cold. Bob stopped and looked around. He couldn’t see the path. He couldn’t see the stream
