Mesh adaptation-aided image segmentation

Abstract: Highlights•An image segmentation algorithm with anisotropic finite elements is proposed.•The algorithm performs a minimization of the Ambrosio-Tortorelli-like functional.•The mesh adaptation is led by an a-posteriori error estimator.•A sensitivity analysis to the parameters is performed.•The algorithm is applied to both synthetic and medical images.
