SAP: On Designing Simple AQM Algorithm for Supporting TCP Flows

Abstract: In this paper we propose a new AQM scheme, Simple Adaptive Proportional (SAP). The key idea of SAP is to add adaptive mechanism to the proportional controller. SAP has several advantages. With the property of proportional controller, SAP is responsive and stable. Compared with doing update at each packet arrival, the periodic update method in SAP requires much less processing overhead. The adaptive mechanism in SAP makes it work well in a wide range of network environments without reconfiguration. Both the implementation and configuration of SAP are very simple.
