Abstract: Highlights•A totally modeling-based coding framework for the 3D holoscopic image is proposed.•3-D Epanechnikov Mixture Regression (EMR) is firstly used in the 3D holoscopic image compression.•An Elementary Image Adaptive Model Selection (EI-AMLS) algorithm for the optimal modeling of sub-EIA is proposed.•The sub-EIA is embedded into the reconstruction framework to form the decoded elementary image array (EIA).
