Abstract: Highlights•We linearise a functional type optimal transport distance.•We demonstrate that this linearisation is computationally efficient and allows for off-the-shelf data analysis tools.•We propose extensions to higher orders.•In addition to synthetic datasets we demonstrate the methodology in a range of classification applications including: Australian sign language, breast cancer histopathologies and financial time series.
