Abstract: Highlights•We present the first complete mathematical model for the CIRP with practical assumptions.•The complex features of the CIRP are explained and a two stage algorithm is developed.•We found new best known solutions for 229 out of 320 benchmark instances.•We improved the average solution value of published results by 3.5 percent.•Qualitative initial solutions are found in an average running time of 0.1 seconds.
