Abstract: Highlights•This paper proposes two approaches to repair the variability bugs in an SPL system.•Several heuristic rules are also introduced to improve the repair performance.•The approaches are evaluated on a dataset of 318 variability bugs of 5 SPL systems.•The heuristic rules could improve the number of correct fixes by 30%–150%.
