Abstract: Vehicle platooning has emerged as one of the leading applications of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) because of its motivation of enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency. However, by exploiting the vulnerabilities of platooning protocols, an attacker can launch various types of attacks. One possible solution can be placing Roadside Units (RSUs) along the highways as the root-of-trust to detect such attack attempts. However, installing RSUs frequently is not economical due to their deployment costs. In this work, we formulate a method to ensure the safety and performance of a platoon by installing a minimum number of RSUs. We also present a simulation result using Plexe to motivate the present work.
