Abstract: Highlights•A quantitative irradiance estimation network, named QIENet, using recurrent neural network is proposed.•The influence of the satellite Himawari-8 spectral channels, time, and geographical information on QIENet is investigated.•QIENet is capable of providing a high-fidelity hourly GHI database with spatial resolution 0.02°×0.02°.
