Heartphones: Sensor Earphones and Mobile Application for Non-obtrusive Health Monitoring

Abstract: This paper describes the development and evaluation of wearable sensor earphones coupled with a mobile platform for comfortable assessment of cardiovascular function. Photoplethysmographic sensors were integrated into regular earphones to provide discreet and non-stigmatizing heart rate measurements. Preliminary results indicate that the proposed system has a high degree of accuracy at rest with an average error of 0.63%.
