Abstract: Highlights•The bare bones fireworks algorithm (BBFWA) is a very simple and efficient swarm intelligence algorithm.•Sufficient conditions for local convergence are given theoretically.•The BBFWA runs faster and performs better than previous versions of the fireworks algorithm.•The performance of the BBFWA on real world problems is competitive.
