Abstract: Recent researches have shown that one can use distributed hash table (DHT) to build scalable and robust distributed systems. In this paper, we propose an efficient hierarchical DHT-based method for addressing two important problems that are encountered while using DHTs in distributed multimedia information queries: multi-attribute query, and range query. The structure of our method consists of two layers: the upper layer classifies multimedia information using DHT to efficiently partition the resource space; and the lower layer organizes multimedia information using an extended clustering method for complex query. In particular, based on this structure, we present novel multi-attribute query and range query algorithms. The experimental results show that our method can get less computation complexity and better scalability in the case of multi-attribute query and range query, compared to the traditional methods.
