RAOA: A Relay-assisted Offloading Approach in Edge Computing Environment

Abstract: Computation offloading is an attractive and challenging problem in Edge Computing. Existing offloading approaches are mostly designed for the mobile devices in the service coverage of edge servers, which neglects the devices in the dummy area (i.e., the region where offloading service is unavailable). The mobile devices in the dummy area cannot offload tasks to edge servers, making it difficult to support large-scale tasks. In view of this challenge, we propose a relay-assisted offloading approach which considers the mobility of devices. It can leverage other devices in the service coverage of edge servers as relays to enable the device in the dummy area to complete offloading t asks. As a result, the simulation experiment based on real-world datasets proves the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed approach.
