A survey on recent trends in robotics and artificial intelligence in the furniture industry

Abstract: In this paper, we present a survey on recent trends in robotics and artificial intelligence in the furniture industry. We first introduce the state-of-the-art applications of traditional and collaborative industrial robots in this field, with a particular focus on finishing, painting, and assembly operations. Then, the main uses of data management and artificial intelligence are described. Finally, we present the case of the International Furniture and Panel Technology Campus of Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy), and the results of a questionnaire submitted to ten companies of the furniture sector.
