Abstract: Highlights•An algorithm has been developed for simulating convection and phase change during binary alloy solidification.•Our algorithm features adaptive mesh refinement, which can provide significant performance benefits.•We illustrate the applicability of our method to transient problems, where features develop over a range of spatial scales.
