Keywords: APIs, Data Cleaning, Metadata Enrichment, Persistent Identifiers
TL;DR: This session will provide examples of how multiple free APIs can be utilized to obtain, clean, compare, and visualize scholarly publication data.
Abstract: This session will provide an overview of multiple free APIs that are useful for finding scholarly work, enriching metadata (especially persistent identifiers), and discovering free-to-read full text locations. Examples include: Crossref Metadata Retrieval, Crossref Events, Unpaywall, Paperbuzz, ImpactStory, and Open Access Button. Special attention will be given to assisting non-/minimally-technical users with data cleaning, such as filling in missing DOI values and comparing lists of records in quality control checks (such as comparing a profile publication list against a CV). Attention will also be given to merging data from multiple sources and representing that information in profiles.
