Abstract: Highlights•Dynamic switches between strategies are uncovered by HMM.•A novel model of dynamic effective connectivity is proposed to estimate the information flow between key brain regions.•The rTPJ-rDLPFC interaction is stronger for strategic deception compared with the social heuristic strategies.•The top-down control from the BA10 to the rTPJ is correlated with the level of deception.
