Abstract: Highlights•A simultaneous process optimization and heat integration approach is proposed.•This approach is based on rigorous models in process simulators.•Minimum utility and heat exchanger area are predicted by a targeting approach.•A piecewise linear approximation for the composite curve is implemented.•Higher profit, conversion, power efficiency, and lower operating cost are achieved.
