Abstract: It is indeed a great honor to be the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE OPEN JOURNAL OF THE COMPUTER SOCIETY (OJCS). OJCS is a rigorously peer-reviewed forum for rapid publication of open access (OA) articles describing high-impact results on the latest emerging topics and trends in all areas of interest to the IEEE Computer Society, encompassing theory, design, practice, and application relating to computer and information processing science and technology. OJCS complements existing IEEE Computer Society publications by providing a rapid review cycle and a thorough review of technical articles within the open-access-only framework. It is fully open and compliant with funder mandates, including Plan S. I have completed my first year of service and I am honored to report that over the past year we have made excellent progress towards a balanced composition of the editorial board across various expertises of the IEEE Computer Society, a rapid review cycle, a selective review process, and a high visibility and interest to the society, thanks to the guidance of Prof. Fabrizio Lombardi (2020 Vice President, Publications), the devoted efforts of the editorial board members, and the continuous support of the IEEE Computer Society staff.
