Abstract: Highlights•A diagnosis tool gives comprehensive diagnoses for Python package installations and generates feasible installation solutions.•An empirical study of Python version compatibility in the wild. There is a strong relationship between installation failures and Python versions.•The experimental results show the tool's effectiveness (resolving installation errors) and efficiency (predicting installation failures).
