Abstract: Highlights•We propose a deep statistical modeling to image data representation.•We construct a cluster assignment module based on the EM algorithm.•The model jointly encodes image features and estimates GMM in the feature space.•Experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed DEM-Net-S and DEM-Net-C.
