Abstract: Data processing adds substantial soft costs to
distributed energy systems. These costs are incurred primarily as
labor necessary to collect, normalize, store and communicate data.
The open-source Orange Button data exchange standard
comprises data taxonomies, common data sources, and
interoperable software tools which together can dramatically
reduce these costs and thereby accelerate the deployment of
distributed energy systems. We describe the data taxonomies and
datasets, and the software enabled by these capabilities.
