SVPCGA: Selection on virtual population based compact genetic algorithm

Abstract: This paper describes a novel virtual population based truncation selection operator that extends our previously proposed virtual population based tournament selection operator. Moreover, two extensions of compact genetic algorithm (CGA) that make use of virtual population based selection operators are presented in this paper: one is the tournament selection on virtual population based compact genetic algorithm (SVPCGA-TO); the other is the truncation selection on virtual population based compact genetic algorithm (SVPCGA-TR). Both SVPCGA-TO and SVPCGA-TR are tested on several benchmark problems and their results are compared with those obtained by CGA and ne-CGA. Some superiorities of SVPCGA in search reliability can be achieved.
