Histogram of Oriented Gradients meet deep learning: A novel multi-task deep network for 2D surgical image semantic segmentation
Abstract: Highlights•We investigated the Histogram of Oriented Gradients to generate pseudo-labels of images and exploited these representations as labels of an auxiliary task.•We extended existing semantic segmentation networks to train in a multi-task framework.•We applied our method on two challenging medical semantic segmentation data sets. Our extensive experiments demonstrate that our pipeline consistently outperforms the counter-part single task networks.
