Implantable Optoelectronic Neural Interface for Optogenetics

Abstract: Optogenetics technology is a new approach to neural regulation that can integrate genetic engineering and optical technology. The advent of this technology has given neuroscience a huge boost, which has been widely used in animal behavior, clinical medicine, molecular biology, cell biology, and other fields. This review summarized the progress in the field of hybrid optoelectronic implantable neural interfaces for optogenetics. Specifically, the implantable optical waveguide neural interfaces and integrated micro-LEDs optrodes are discussed in detail. The advantages and limitations of various optoelectronic neural interfaces are summarized to illuminate the future of optogenetics development.
