Abstract: Highlights•Bi-objective traffic light scheduling problem is addressed to minimize the delay time.•Discrete differential evolution-driven approach named DDE is proposed.•Numerical experiments are conducted on 32 different traffic instances.•DDE is compared with literature methods based on various performance metrics.•Comparison of performance indicates the efficacy of the DDE.
