Abstract: Highlights•AerialDB is a federated, peer-to-peer, spatio-temporal datastore for mobile devices (drones).•Data from mobile devices (drones) is indexed onto databases running on edge servers.•It uses lightweight, content-based replica placement and indexing of data shards.•Supports decentralized and locality-aware processing of spatio-temporal queries.•It is reliable and exhibits graceful degradation of performance upon edge failures.•Experiments demonstrate performance and reliability on up to 400 drones and 80 edges.•10×<math><mrow is="true"><mn is="true">10</mn><mo is="true">×</mo></mrow></math> and 100×<math><mrow is="true"><mn is="true">100</mn><mo is="true">×</mo></mrow></math> performance improvement in insertion and querying, respectively.
