Abstract: Highlights•Carbon intensity tracking requires assessment of emissions along value chains.•Options for executing operations can have a large impact on carbon emissions.•Meeting demands at minimum cost while meeting carbon intensity indicators is challenging.•MINLP optimization model provides useful tool to manage operations and limit emissions.•Major carbon intensity reductions can be obtained from minor additional costs.
