Gene selection for microarray data classification using a novel ant colony optimization

Abstract: highlights•An unsupervised method based on ant colony optimization is proposed for gene selection.•A new fitness function is employed to evaluate the subsets of selected genes.•The relevant and redundant genes are addressedin the proposed method.•The method is compared to the filter methods upon microarray datasets.•The results demonstrate that the proposed methodis superior to the existing methods.
