Abstract: This report highlights the limitations of existing water level monitoring systems, characterised by their bulkiness, high cost, and maintenance challenges, leading to limited adoption. To address these issues, the study leverages Internet of Things (IoT) technology by employing affordable sensor nodes for water level monitoring. Specifically, an ultrasonic sensor-based water level node was developed, transmitting data to the cloud via GPRS (2G). Five such nodes were strategically deployed to monitor water levels in overhead tanks and sumps at IIIT Hyderabad, India. The collected data underwent analysis to identify behavioural patterns and detect faulty float switches, including leakage detection. Additionally, a deep learning algorithm was applied to forecast future water requirements. Consequently, this IoT-based intelligent water level meter presents a more accessible and cost-efficient solution for water level monitoring, offering potential benefits for various applications.
