Abstract: In the last couple of years ARM-based servers have been gradually deployed in the global data centers. Such tendency may provide great business opportunities for companies in the IT industry. Hence, the ability to track the development process of the server ecosystems is of great value. In this paper a feasible method is proposed to evaluate the level of development of the server ecosystems based on analyzing open-source information obtained from Linux kernels. In particular, the source code and git commit logs of the Linux kernels are utilized to characterize the level of development for three major ecosystems, including x86, ARM64 and MIPS. The development process between the three ecosystems is compared to illustrate their momentum in the future server market.
