TL;DR: Notes from quickly building a new VIVO instance
Keywords: COVID-19, VIVO
Abstract: Early in 2020, the University of California, Davis started a two-year project to develop and evaluate potential solutions for a single, integrated, research information system for faculty and university associates. Our development follows project phases of internal requirements gathering, a review of potential commercial solutions, and documenting priorities and concerns of our faculty. The original timeline planned for an August demonstration of some basic read-only functionality of publication output for one small department. The COVID-19 crisis in March provided us an opportunity to focus our initial example instead on campus research regarding COVID-19. This allowed us to prototype our system with a set of users from multiple departments and positions that were both engaged and tolerant. In this lightning talk, we describe the steps we took to quickly get a working VIVO installation operational, data ingestion paths, lessons learned from the exercise, and how that affected our plans to move forward.
